18 How's the coursework going along?

ca bit more of what I've been working on lately! here, more experiments with compositions and medium.
a dancer, with a dreamcatcher ribbon... I originally used Van Gogh's 'Night' as reference for her hair, thinking the black object in the foreground to be a castle- until I realized at my consultation that it was, in fact, a poplar tree from his window. (-.-) I was experimenting here with a black foreground and colourful background, using watercolour.

extremely, excessively watery background and an unfilled foreground- not too satisfied with this because it seems more like something I'd do at home to pass the time, but the colours did turn out quite pretty so I guess that's something to be thankful for!

very proud of this one!! it's a day vs night, stars vs birds and overall CASTLES comparison drawing thing. the one on the left, with very dark pencil hatching, was inspired by a photo I found of the Net- I think I Googled "night sky". I used liquid paper for the stars and then etched out their shape using pencil again. Both castles were referenced from illustrations on the Net, but Mrs Tan rightly pointed out that their illustration styles are quite different.
this is brilliant, isn't it? kudos to Jun Hui's marvelous abstract work from last year, which she lent me to use as the background. I only drew out the dreamcatcher design and used a penknife to cut it out, that's all ;-)
the colours didn't turn up as well in the scan but this is a colour pencil/black ink pen sketch of a girl (whose hair is pulling her down, incidentally- I seem to have this thing about braids) whose wings/potential are larger and more brilliant than she knows. it's like dreams, really.
more illustrations, this time experimenting with song lyrics. I admit I had to use correction tape in the second one, which was sad because I thought doing a sketch with pen without ever correcting anything would be cool. songs used are moon river in the top one (audrey hepburn's version is, in my opinion, the best) and you make my dreams in the second.
at my last consultative session Mrs Tan suggested using different motifs (girls, castles, and.... birds, I think! oh gosh I'm so forgetful!) as the foreground for different lanterns so here I was experimenting with that.
a  pastel sketch of Rapunzel! this was really challenging to draw from scratch. and pastel is also really messy to work with. my hands got sooo dirty, I couldn't touch anything, even the paper!
combining the Disney princesses with ballet. it was quite fun deciding how their tutus and shoes would look like, and what poses suited them most. I ran out of ideas when it came to Ariel (A MERMAID! A BALLERINA WITH NO FEET!) though.

a very, very bad sketch of Scarlett Johanssen as Cinderella. I believe I abandoned it. ):
a preview of what's to come up next- working with very thin, translucent coloured paper!
they're like crepe paper, but thinner and smoother.
